What are SARMs?

Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators (SARMs) are a class of therapeutic compounds that have similar properties to anabolic agents, but with reduced androgenic properties. This property allows SARMs the advantage of androgen-receptor specificity, tissue selectivity, and the lack of steroid-related side effects.

SARMs or Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators contain androgens which are a special kind of hormones that act as ligands connecting to cellular androgen receptors. The androgen receptors (AR) integrated in a composite signal transduction conduit that ultimately leads to bigger expression of particular genes. This connection to the AR is what makes all prohormones and steroids give their muscle growth properties.

A number of pharmaceutical companies are currently developing and performing investigations on SARMs.

Why are SARMs being developed?

Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators (SARMs) are currently being developed as an alternative to prescribed steroids. SARMs are able to selectively cause muscle growth, while reducing or eliminating unwanted secondary side effects. The problems with anabolic steroids or testosterone replacement therapy are undesirable side effects that occur.

Steroids have typically been prescribed in medicine for two distinct reasons:

  • Muscle wasting diseases ranging from cancer to osteoporosis
  • Hormone replacement therapy

What are the benefits of SARMs?

  • Increase in fat loss
  • Increase in lean muscle
  • Improvements in endurance
  • Increase in bone density
  • Faster recovery periods
  • Healing properties
  • Increase in muscle mass and size
  • Strength increases
